A shooting at an alleged liquor house on South Slocumb Street left one man injured early this morning.
The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating.
Corey Cox, 36, of Dove Place, was shot in the arm after an altercation at 4:36 a.m., Maj. Al King said.
"His injuries are not life-threatening," he said.
A liquor house is a private home where the residents purchase alcohol, legally or illegally, then sell it by the cup or the shot to their guests.
King said that Cox was still too intoxicated to provide any details and, as of yet, police have no suspects.
The account King provided after speaking with investigators is much different from what was initially reported as a home invasion.
According to the police report taken by officers who first arrived on scene, Gamara Lofton, 37, said she answered a knock at the front door of her home at 208 S. Slocumb St.
A group of black males forced their way in and began to assault Cox, who was inside the home. One of the men then shot Cox, the report said.
King said investigators working the case discovered the reported break-in never actually occurred.
"This was not a burglary. This was an altercation inside a house where there were some 'visitors,'" King said.
More interviews have to be conducted and other people's versions of events will have to be considered before charging anyone with filing a false report.
"If we can prove it, we will charge them," King said.
Investigators are still working to shut down the liquor house.
As for charging anyone with the shooting, King said the investigators will have to wait and see how cooperative Cox will be once he is sober.
