Miss North Carolina Beth Stovall presents her Miss America parade gown and shoe design at preview event. She will compete for real next weekend.

Goldsboro native and Miss North Carolina Beth Stovall has arrived in Atlantic City and is poised to compete for the Miss America crown in less than two weeks.

The 2011 Rosewood High School graduate departed earlier this week, joining the other 52 contestants for a stop in Washington, D.C., before settling in to their new digs in New Jersey.

This week marks preliminary events from Tuesday through Thursday. Miss America will air live on ABC Sunday night, Sept. 14, starting at 8 p.m. with "Countdown to the Crown" followed by the pageant at 9 p.m.

There are two ways her hometown can lend support to Miss Stovall's effort.

"America's Choice," an online contest to determine the bonus finalist during the pageant, is currently under way until Sept. 11 at 11:59 p.m.

To cast a vote, go to www.missamerica.org/vote or www.facebook.com/missamerica.

Actual votes must be cast, however. Hitting "like" on Facebook and You Tube are not considered votes.

Also, anyone interested in sending cards and well wishes to Miss North Carolina can do so, with mail delivered through Sept. 12.

Cards will be hand delivered, if there is a return address. Flowers, food and fruit will not be accepted.

The address to direct mail is: Boardwalk Hall, 2301 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ 08401, Attn: Miss North Carolina, Beth Stovall.
