The Wayne County Sheriff's Office made an arrest Friday in a two-month-long investigation into the sexual assault of a 12-year-old female.
Due to her age and the nature of the crime, the victim's identity will not be released.
Brian Christopher Willis, 19, 303 S. Jefferson Ave., is charged with first-degree rape of a child. He is being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond.
According to a press release, the parents of the victim discovered text messages on their child's cell phone between Willis and their daughter. The messages were of a sexual nature, according to the release.
The parents filed a report with the sheriff's office on July 8, prompting an investigation, Capt. Richard Lewis said.
After conducting interviews with both the victim and the suspect, it was discovered that a sexual act allegedly took place in a parking lot in the Saulston area.
Investigators continued to collect information, which led to the charges.
