A Pikeville man was charged with felony possession of stolen goods after an undercover investigation linked him to the theft of more than $81,000 in equipment from the area near a cell phone tower.

Joseph Conrad Cerny was arrested Thursday for his alleged involvement in the Tuesday robbery of a trailer located at 1718 S. Slocumb St.

Goldsboro police said Cerny, 37, of 684 Perkins Mill Road, broke into the fenced-in area surrounding a cell phone tower and removed $81,595 in testing equipment.

After identifying the man as a suspect, undercover investigators from the GPD Criminal Investigations Division posed as cell phone tower technicians and purchased the stolen equipment from Cerny.

Police said all the stolen equipment was recovered.

Cerny is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $3,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for Friday.
