A Goldsboro woman watched from a neighbor's home Friday as man broke into her house at about 9:15 p.m. and emptied an entire bottle of lighter fluid on the floor of her home.
The suspect fled before lighting the fluid.
Ta'tanisha Monique Davis, 36, of 608 S. Herman St., told police she was at a friend's house from which she could see her own residence. She witnessed a black man wearing a white shirt and blue jeans crawl through an unsecured window into her home.
Ms. Davis thought the window was secured by a board, but it apparently was not, the report said.
Police were called to the scene and found the back door to the residence slightly open. A trail of lighter fluid led throughout the house, out the door to the empty bottle discarded outside.
A suspect has not yet been identified. The Goldsboro Police Department is actively investigating the crime as a burglary and arson.
