A Smithfield man says he was shot while in Goldsboro Tuesday by an unknown assailant who used a shotgun, but that he did not report the incident.
Goldsboro police found out about the shooting late Wednesday night after being contacted by a nurse at Johnston Health in Smithfield where the victim had gone to seek treatment.
The victim is listed as Derwood Lamont Lynn, 30, of 117 Jones Court, Smithfield.
Nurse David Lane called police officers and told them that Lynn had told him he was in the 600 block of South Slocumb Street when the shooting occurred.
Lynn said he did not report the shooting at that time and that he could not recall either the exact or approximate time of the shooting.
Lane told police that Lynn had been struck by shotgun pellets in his right arm and right leg, but that the wounds were minor and not life-threatening.
The report did not indicate if Lynn was at the medical facility at the time of the call.
