For the second time in 31 days, bullets fired from a passing vehicle failed to hit Solomon Herring, Goldsboro police say.

Herring, 25, has twice been the victim in reported drive-by shootings at his residence in the 1600 block of East Maple Street.

After the first incident, July 9 at about 4 p.m., Herring told police he and another man were outside his residence when a white Cadillac drove by and shots rang out.

Bullets struck a neighbor's residence, but no one was harmed. Herring said he returned fire and thought he hit the vehicle twice.

In the latest episode, Sunday, at 12:26 a.m., shots again flew from the open window of a passing motor vehicle. The alleged target was -- this time with another bystander present -- Herring.

The shots were fired this time from a black four-door passenger vehicle. The unidentified suspects fired twice. Herring again returned fire -- four shots, according to the police report.

The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating the incident.
