Fifteen Wayne Community College students were selected to receive summer term scholarships through the Golden LEAF Scholarship program for the North Carolina Community College System.

Curriculum (college credit) recipients and their programs of study are Devin Best, automotive systems technology; Esther House, early childhood education; April Izcoa, associate in science; Wayne Moore, business administration-operations management; Paige Morning, associate in general education; Jason O'Neal, associate in arts; Amanda Tedrow, associate in arts; and Pamela White, medical laboratory technology.

Recipients enrolled in Continuing Education occupational programs are Cynthia Hayden, Josie Guardado, Carlos McBennett, Angelica Montalvo, Mario Montalvo, Elizabeth Smith and Sarah Woodard. These recipients were studying in the Emergency Medical Technician program.

The scholarships can be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation and childcare expenses related to attending classes, and industry-recognized credential testing expenses that address skill gaps upon course completion. Recipients demonstrated financial need and resided in rural counties that are tobacco-dependent and/or economically distressed.

The Golden LEAF Scholarship program, which is designed to help North Carolinians attend the state's community colleges, is funded through a $750,000 grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation. The scholarship program is administered by the N.C. Community College System.
