Dancing Stars of Wayne County is gearing up for its fourth year raising funds to support programs of the Wayne Education Network.
This year's show will be held in the fall, on Friday evening, Oct. 17, at the Paramount Theatre.
As with the 2013 event, it will not only pit community members against one another to generate funds for local educational programs, but will also be a "battle of the dance studios," says organizer Lara Landers.
Participating dance studios from the area include Center Stage Theatre, A Step of Class Dance Studio, Artistic Dance Academy, Mrs. Robins Academy of Dance and Goldsboro School of Ballet.
The community leaders taking part in the fundraiser will be announced soon, Ms. Landers said.
The Wayne Education Network, or WEN, is a program of the Wayne Charitable Partnership Inc., formed several years ago with representatives from Wayne County Public Schools, Wayne Community College, Wayne County Development Alliance, University of Mount Olive, Wayne County Public Library, Partnership for Children of Wayne County, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.
"The funds raised support WEN and its many activities, including teacher stipends, teacher mini grants, the annual Middle School Career Fair, the Annual Teacher Job Fair, the Annual Teacher Welcome Breakfast, and the Golden Rule Incentive program for teachers," said Ms. Landers. "It's all about the children here in Wayne County. The money goes to support these great initiatives and affects all of us here in Wayne County. Our goal is through these programs and partnerships to enhance the educational and training opportunities available to students of all ages."
Fundraising is generated through ticket sales as well as online voting for the participating dancers.
The $75 tickets are being sold at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce. Each ticket admits one adult and includes five votes.
