The Goldsboro Fire Department arrived at 2807 E. Ash St. at 8 a.m. today to find flames inside the residence and smoke pouring out at the eaves. No one was found inside the residence. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Goldsboro Police Department arrived first on scene and confirmed smoke was visible coming from a home on East Ash Street midway through the morning commute today.

Goldsboro Fire Department Engines 2, 4, 5 and Ladder 1 responded, along with Wayne County EMS 51, to 2807 E. Ash St. at 8 a.m. to find a working structure fire.

Firefighters beat on the door before breaking it down and sweeping through the residence with a charged hose. Windows were broken out to help ventilate the house.

"We conducted a primary and a secondary search. No occupants were found," Assistant Fire Chief James Farfour said.

He was still working to identify and to locate the property owner.

The cause of the fire was still unknown at press time.

East Ash Street east of North Berkeley Boulevard remained closed from North Barrow Court to Malloy Street, where Goldsboro police officers allowed vehicles out of the area, but not in.

Parents were seen parking at nearby businesses and carrying their children to Bright Beginnings Christian Center, a day care directly across the street from the burning residence.
