Wesleyan College relocates its campus

N.C. Wesleyan College, formerly located in downtown Goldsboro, has moved to Parkway Drive, next to the YMCA. The building, previously occupied by R.N. Rouse, features additional classrooms and updated computers, and its visibility from U.S. 70 is already drawing in new applicants to the adult degree program.
North Carolina Wesleyan College has relocated its Goldsboro adult degree program from Walnut Street to Parkway Drive, beside the YMCA.
The ribbon cutting will be held July 15, but officials are already celebrating the new location, where new classes began last month.
"It was sad to leave the downtown area where they have welcomed us for over 13 years," said Laura Estes, executive director of Wesleyan's ASPIRE Program. "However, we love the new visibility we have from Highway 70. We have already had new applicants who came in after they saw the sign on the building from the road."
The facility offers 11 classrooms compared to the seven at its former location and will better accommodate the growing enrollment of the ASPIRE program, an acronym which stands for Adult Student Program: Innovative, Respected, Engaging.
Ms. Estes said that the recent move has been positively received by students and faculty alike.
English instructor Liz Meador said the updated computers and fresh furnishings are particularly popular.
"I think students will take pride in the building and perform well in the atmosphere conducive to their learning and to achieving their academic goals," she said.
The ASPIRE program in Goldsboro provides multiple bachelor's degree programs for adults through the Office of Adult and Professional Studies. Mature men and women may tailor their course loads to meet personal, career and life goals through accelerated classes, online and hybrid courses, and other options.
The program offers degrees in accounting, business administration, computer information systems, criminal justice, educational studies, elementary education (K-6), marketing (online), organizational administration, psychology and religious studies.
The adult degree program in Goldsboro began at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in the mid-1970s and moved to the downtown location in 2001. Ms. Estes has been an administrator with the program since 2000.
"We are excited about our new friendships and nearby businesses such as the YMCA and Pepsi," she said. "We look forward to becoming a good neighbor with a positive effect."
North Carolina Wesleyan College is a private, coeducational, liberal arts institution affiliated with The United Methodist Church. Current enrollment is approximately 1,600 traditional and adult students.
