Man killed in crash on U.S. 70 West

A motorcyclist was killed Saturday on U.S. 70 West when he lost control of his bike and crashed near Community Drive about 6 p.m.
Ahmad Sharrieff, 34, of 3509 Court, Raleigh, was traveling east on U.S. 70 in Johnston County when a state trooper attempted to stop him for a speeding violation, authorities said.
After entering Wayne County, Sharrieff lost control of his motorcycle, traveled off on to the left median portion of U.S. 70, and struck a highway sign.
Sharrieff died at the scene.
The accident happened near sundown and caused traffic to back up for miles until the accident scene was cleared.
The Highway Patrol's press release did not say where the chase started nor how fast Sharrieff was traveling when the wreck occurred.
