A Goldsboro police officer assaulted in the 900 block of South Slocumb Street during the apprehension of a suspect Tuesday night suffered only scrapes and bruises.
Jonathan Junior Oneal, 24, of 808 Heather Ann Lane, is charged with resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer, assault on a law enforcement officer and aggravated possession of marijuana.
Oneal was in possession of 35 grams of marijuana, according to a police report. He is being held in the Wayne County Jail under an $11,000 secured bond.
Oneal allegedly struck officer Mathew Marino in the face and threw a bicycle against another officer's patrol car as he tried to escape on foot.
Officers chased Oneal, who stopped running when threatened with being hit with a Taser, Maj. Mike West said.
"He laid right down at the sight of the Taser," West said.
West said Marino needed some peroxide and Band-Aids for the scrapes to his elbows and knee, but that he finished his shift and will miss no time.
