16-year-old killed on crash on U.S. 70

A 16-year-old was killed after midnight on Friday between Goldsboro and LaGrange while he was walking in the westbound lane of U.S. 70.
James Edward Johnson, 16, of 234 Byrd Yancey Bass Road, Clinton, was struck at approximately 12:24 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 70 and Lake Wakeena Road by an SUV driven by Larry Dale Evans, 42, of 509 S. Fayetteville Ave., Dunn.
State troopers found Johnson dead on arrival.
State trooper Justin Arnette said that Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident, but the agency is not anticipating any charges at this time.
Evans was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital, but he had no obvious injuries, Arnette said.
The man's passenger, his 16-year-old son, Joshua, was also transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital but was not hurt in the wreck.
