MOUNT OLIVE -- A 23-year-old Mount Olive woman died in a one-vehicle wreck early Sunday morning just north of town.

Crystal L. Grant of Jurney Street was pronounced dead at the scene on U.S. 117 Alternate about three-tenths of a mile north of town, Highway Patrol Sgt. G.L. Burton said.

The wreck occurred around 4:08 a.m., he said.

According to the accident report, Ms. Grant's car crossed left of the center line, ran off the road and struck a tree.

She was pinned in the vehicle, Burton said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, although it appears that speed might have been, he said.

The speed limit along that stretch of road is 45 miles per hour. Ms. Grant appeared to be traveling between 55 and 60 miles per hour, Burton said.

"The big factor was that she was not wearing her seat belt," he said.
