'Cure for the Colors' fundraiser April 25-26

Southeastern Cancer Care "Cures for the Colors" fourth annual walk/run marathon fundraiser will be held Friday and Saturday, April 25-26.

Southeastern Cancer Care's goal is to assist patients in eastern North Carolina with food, utilities, gas, prescription drugs and other needs as they undergo chemotherapy treatment or are within one year of recovery.

The Friday night kickoff will begin at 7 p.m. on April 25, followed by the lantern release in honor or memory of family members or friends.

On Saturday, youngsters can enjoy inflatable's, face painting, clowns, and a dunking booth. Volunteers will be selling barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, french fries and turkey legs both Friday and Saturday to help raise money to fight cancer and benefit cancer victims.

The 100-mile ultra-marathon will begin Friday at 2 p.m. There is a 30-hour limit on the event.

On Saturday, the certified marathon will start at 7 a.m., with the 100-mile team event and the individual 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer runs all starting at 9 a.m.

All competitors must be finished by 8 p.m.

A one-mile fun walk/run will begin at 10 a.m.

Organizers remind the public that all proceeds from the event will remain in eastern North Carolina to benefit victims of cancer.
