Majesty York

Majesty York is in the Top 13 on "American Idol."

Her name was the eighth called, the fourth female, in the Top 10 on Thursday night's results show. The three additional contestants rounding out the Top 13 were "wild cards" chosen by the show's judges.

"Majesty Rose," as she first introduced herself to the judges when she auditioned in Atlanta, hails from Goldsboro. The 21-year-old graduated from Eastern Wayne High School in 2010. She also attended Wayne Community College and had worked as a preschool teacher at the Family YMCA.

Weeks of auditions across the country, thousands of contestants winnowed down to recipients of the golden ticket that sent them to Hollywood, all led up to the announcement of which singers would advance in the competition and be selected by America's vote.

"Seventy-five thousand contenders, narrowed down to the final group," said host Ryan Seacrest. "Aside from the finale, this is one of the biggest moments of our year, the official reveal of Season 13's Top 13."

As the top five male and top five female singers took their seats on the stage, Seacrest lapsed into a brief group interview.

"Girls, what have you been saying to each other as each one comes back and makes it into this final group?" he said.

Majesty was the first to respond.

"We're excited. We're going on tour!" she said.

But the selection process was not over. The Top 10 were based upon the nation's vote from the two previous night's of performances.

The three "wild cards" would be chosen by the judges from the remaining 10 contestants. Judges Harry Connick Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban chose five singers to take the mic and sing on the spot, with only three from that pool to stay on the show.

Their picks were C.J. Harris, Jena Irene, Spencer Lloyd, Bria Anai and Kristen O'Connor. Based on the judges' comments after each performance, none made a stellar impression except for Jena Irene.

When it came time to announce their "wild cards," Jena Irene, Harris and O'Connor made the cut.

The other North Carolina contestant, Caleb Johnson, from Asheville, is also among the Top 13.

Rounding out the group are Malaya Watson, Ben Briley, Emily Piriz, Alex Preston, Jessica Meuse, Dexter Roberts, M.K. Nobilette and Sam Woolf.

The show resumes next week in its regular time slot, Wednesday and Thursday at 8 p.m. on Fox TV. Contestants will perform on Wednesday, with results airing the following evening.

Remember, though, here on out the shows will be live and in the hands of the voters.

Information on how to cast a vote can be found online at AmericanIdol.com and during each show, instructions are given along with the phone number to text or call. The window of opportunity to cast votes is limited, however, usually from the time the show ends and only for a couple of hours.
