A loss prevention employee for The Pantry Inc., which operates the Kangaroo gas station at 2035 U.S. Highway 70 W., reported two employees suspected of stealing money to the Goldsboro Police Department.

Both women have since been charged.

Janet Marie Hall, 50, 105 Dulcet Court, and Lashon Antwan Western, 25, of Wilson, are alleged to have stolen $2,236 and $837, respectively, from the store's cash register.

Police charged Ms. Hall with larceny by employee Monday, and placed her in the Wayne County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond.

Ms. Western, also charged with larceny by employee, was arrested Tuesday, and is jailed under a $5,000 secured bond.

Eric Owens, a loss prevention employee of The Pantry Inc., conducted the initial investigation into the alleged thefts.

He told police he received a tip from another employee that someone was stealing money, which prompted his investigation.

He first discovered Ms. Hall's activities, listed on the report as taking place Feb. 13. Then, through the course of his investigation, Owens uncovered Ms. Western's alleged role as well.

According to the police report, Ms. Western's activities began in November 2013 and continued until the time of her arrest.
