Delbridge announces bid for District Attorney

Assistant District Attorney Matt Delbridge has announced that he will file for district attorney.
Delbridge, who has served as an assistant district attorney for the 8th Judicial District for 30 years, is the senior assistant district attorney in the district and the chief homicide prosecutor for Wayne County.
"I am running for this position because I have invested my life's work in its mission of seeking justice and understand how important and vital this position is to the safety of our citizens," Delbridge said in a statement. "I offer unmatched professional experiences and success, and I will be a leader whose every decision is based on principles of right and wrong."
Delbridge joined the District Attorney's office in 1983 and became senior assistant district attorney more than 17 years ago. He has tried every type of case and practiced in every court and in every one of the three counties in the district -- Wayne, Lenoir and Greene.
Delbridge is a 1974 graduate of Goldsboro High School. He graduated from East Carolina University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. An Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow, he is married to Margaret Griffin Delbridge and has two daughters, both of whom are honor students at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
He is a member of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro, the Goldsboro Rotary Club and Masonic Lodge No. 112.
Over the past several decades, Delbridge has prosecuted some of Wayne County's most high-profile cases.
"My decisions on how best to resolve these cases are based upon the same principles that guide all the decisions I make," he said. "Is it the right thing to do? My father taught me to be a realist and my mother instilled in me that you must be steadfast in your convictions. I have taken these principles to heart over the course of my professional career. When mercy was merited, it was given. When punishment was needed, it was demanded."
