A Goldsboro police officer was injured this weekend during the arrest of two men charged with the attempted breaking and entering of 15 motor vehicles at Jackson Motor Sales at 411 N. William St. Sunday.

Kevin Devon Hines, 42, 907 N. George St., and Leslie Terelle Hines, 31, 414 N. Virginia St., are both currently held in the Wayne County Jail, each under a $23,000 secured bond.

In addition to charges of attempted breaking and entering a motor vehicle, Kevin Hines is also charged with simple possession of a controlled substance, and Leslie Hines is charged with assault on a government official and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer.

Police were called to Jackson Motor Sales at about 11:51 p.m. to investigate reports of someone trying to enter vehicles on the property. The officers first discovered Kevin Hines walking between cars on the property, according to the report.

While detaining him, officers heard another police officer involved in a foot chase.

Goldsboro police officer Cody Bechel wrestled Leslie Hines to the ground in the process of arresting him and suffered scrapes to the back of his right hand, the report said.

Police found evidence that 15 cars had been tampered with, including handprints made visible by dew on and around door handles of several of the cars.
