A Goldsboro man bit by a dog in the 1400 block of Humphrey Street on Wednesday is now in the Wayne County Jail charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon.

According to one Goldsboro police report, Roemello Sasser, 19, 900 Fourth St., was bitten on the leg by a 7-year-old brindle pit bull belonging to Tina Michelle Newsome, 36. The incident took place just before 2 p.m.

Ms. Newsome said a young child in her home let the dog out by mistake. She and a neighbor were later able to corral the animal.

After 8 p.m., Sasser and two juveniles allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint in the parking lot of Alan Sutton Jewelry at 1803 Wayne Memorial Drive.

Gregory Lee East, 30, of Lucama, told police three male subjects used an assault rifle to rob him of his wallet, bank cards and $4 in cash, according to the police report.

Sasser and the two younger assailants fled on foot and were later caught by additional officers in the area.

Sasser is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is held under a $50,000 secured bond awaiting a first appearance in Wayne County Court.
