DGDC holding Santa Stumble bar crawl on Friday

Bring out your worst Christmas sweaters and your fluffy Santa hats to the downtown Santa Stumble bar crawl beginning at 8 p.m. Friday at Matchbox.
The Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. is looking for a better turnout than was seen during the Creepy Crawl Halloween night, promotions coordinator Meg Gernaat said.
Ms. Gernaat said some of the difficulties associated with the Creepy Crawl came from holding it on Halloween night, as well as the event not moving from bar to bar as a group.
"We did Creepy Crawl different (this year) and decided this way was better," she said. "With it on Halloween, people can't go trick or treating and the baby-sitters are booked or doing their own things. We were talking about ways to make it better afterward and next year we'll do it on a Friday or Saturday near Halloween instead of Thursday like we did."
The DGDC heads up three bar crawls a year, the Barnyard Bar Bounce after Pig in the Park and then the Creepy Crawl and Santa Stumble.
Ms. Gernaat hopes that less competition for the date and a more structured plan for the crawl will result in a successful event.
"This is really more about getting our restaurants' names out there," she said.
Participants will start off at Matchbox and move to a different bar every hour until ending up at The Laughing Owl at 11 p.m.
Drink specials at Matchbox include an Angry Elf mix of eggnog, spiced rum and Fireball cinnamon whiskey for only $4, a Matchbox Mistletoe Martini with pomegranate flavors for $5, and a Very Cherry Christmas shot with spiced rum and real cherries for $3.
Also available will be $3 beer specials all night.
At 9 p.m. the crawl will move over to Torero's where $3 mojitos and tequila sunrises will be poured all night, along with other beer specials.
At the Flying Shamrock at 10 p.m., $1 "jolly shots" and $2 "Santa suds" will be available.
The crowd will stumble over to The Laughing Owl at 11 p.m. to finish off the night.
The Laughing Owl will offer $3 peppermint stick shooters during the bar crawl.
Taxi service will be in downtown during the bar crawl and numbers for the taxi service will be posted in the restaurants.
