A Mount Olive man is charged with kidnapping and assault on a female after abducting a former girlfriend at gunpoint Sunday.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Goldsboro Police Department arrested and charged Terence James Garner, 45, of 154 County Road, with carrying a concealed weapon, second-degree kidnapping, assault on a female and possession of a firearm by a felon.

He is currently being held in the Wayne County Jail without bond pending a first appearance in Wayne County Court later today.

The first call for help came at 12:35 a.m. from the Kangaroo gas station 515 E. New Hope Road.

According to the press releases issued by police, Garner and a female were inside the store when the female mouthed to the clerk, "Call 911. He's going to kill me."

Both Garner and his captive were gone by the time police arrived.

The female turned out to be Tara Kornegay Owens, 42, of 320 Cricket Ridge, Mount Olive.

Ms. Owens would later tell police she was taken at gunpoint by Garner from 660 E. New Hope Road.

Approximately 30 minutes after the call from convenience store, another 911 call came into Wayne County Dispatch -- this time from Ms. Owens.

Ms. Owens was able to tell the dispatcher she had been kidnapped and was instructed to leave the line open.

The dispatcher was then able to track Ms. Owens' location and send Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputies to intercept her and Garner.

Garner was immediately charged by the sheriff's office with carrying a concealed weapon.

Ms. Owens was then able to tell the deputies she had been kidnapped at gunpoint and threatened with bodily harm.

Goldsboro police, already investigating the 911 call from the Kangaroo, responded to the scene and took Garner into custody on the kidnapping and domestic assault charges.
