North Carolina Community Credit Union is holding a Holiday Mail for the Heroes kickoff event today at 2401 E. Ash St., the main branch of the financial institution.

The program, spearheaded by the American Red Cross seeks to deliver holiday greeting cards to US service members stationed across the globe. NCCFCU will place drop-off boxes at all three branch locations -- on Ash Street, inside the BX at Seymour Johnson AFB and at 710 N. Church St. in Mount Olive. People of all ages, as well as civic and religious organizations, are encouraged to stop by a branch and sign a card to be sent to our troops.

Guidelines for those wishing to create their own cards can be found at NCCFCU.org or at redcross.org/holidaymail.

Cards will be collected at the branches through Dec. 5, after which they will be delivered to the local Red Cross chapter for initial shipment to Washington, D.C.

"While we acknowledge the sacrifices that our troops make throughout the year for our freedoms, we especially recognize those that are made during the holiday season, when so many are forced to be away from their families and friends," said Brittany Acree, NCCFCU marketing and public relations director.
