The local Salvation Army and American Red Cross are helping victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

The Salvation Army is taking monetary donations of any amount, said Lt. Kenny Igleheart, commander.

"If you're sending a check, in the memo line put Haiyan," Igleheart said.

Donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or mailed to the Salvation Army at P.O. Box 264.

The American Red Cross has sent to disaster relief specialists to help Typhoon Haiyan victims. It has also activated its family tracing services. Anyone unable to contact a family member in the Philippines may call the Wayne County chapter of the American Red Cross at 919-735-7201.

The Red Cross is also accepting monetary donations to help the typhoon victims. Contributions may be made by logging onto redcross.org and clicking on "donate funds" or by sending a check to the local Red Cross at Wayne County chapter of the American Red Cross, 600 N. George St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.
