The North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service has launched a Strategic Planning Initiative.

The Extension Service has experienced federal and state budget cuts of approximately $20 million over the past decade. In the past four years alone, its budget has en cut by $13.7 million.

The Strategic Planning Initiative began because of the economic impacts and the need to position Cooperative Extension for the future, Wayne Extension Agent Tyler Whaley said.

During November and December, 12 "listening sessions" will be held across the state to provide citizens an opportunity to offer suggestions on how to move the organization forward.

Duplin County will hosting one of the sessions Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Lois G. Britt Agricultural Services Center in the Ed Emory Auditorium, Kenansville.

People may register by visiting go.ncsu.edu/2013_ ncces_listening_sessions or by calling the Wayne County Extension office at 919-731-1520.

People who would like to a ride to Duplin County should notify the Extension office.

People who are unable to attend the listening session should visit the N.C. Cooperative Extension Strategic Planning Initiative website at http://www.ces. ncsu.edu/vision-initiative.
