LAGRANGE -- A Lenoir County man is accused of shooting his brother to death during a fight Sunday night on Little Wiggins Road near the Wayne-Lenoir county line, the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office reported.

Scott Wiggins allegedly shot Davis Brent Wiggins, 35, after the two became involved in an argument about 8 p.m. Sunday.

Lenoir lawmen said Wiggins was shot in the neck with a .357 caliber handgun. His body was found near a side entry door at 5825 Little Wiggins Road.

According to a report released by the Sheriff's Office, the suspect was cooperative with deputies who responded to the 911 call.

Authorities said the argument started earlier in the evening at the victim's home, which is next door to the suspect's. The argument continued when the victim went to his brother's home, the report said, and a physical fight broke out.

The wives of both men tried to intervene but could not stop the two from fighting.

The victim got on the exterior of the side entry door and was being blocked by the wives to keep the victim from re-entering the home.

Witnesses said Scott Wiggins got his handgun and fired a warning shot to get his brother to leave his home, but it only enraged his brother, who attempted to get past the women to his brother.

At that point, Scott Wiggins allegedly fired one round, striking his brother, who was unarmed, in the neck.

Attempts to revive the victim failed.

No charges had been filed as of press time. Investigators said the case will be forwarded to the district attorney for review. They added that alcohol was believed to have played a role in the argument.
