Grantham Grange honored by state

Grantham Grange won several honors during the N.C. State Grange's annual convention held Sept. 19-21 at the Hilton Charlotte University Place in Charlotte.
It won first place in Legislative Affairs and for Grange Month that was held in April. It also won second place in Community Service and will be honored by the national Grange as a Distinguished Grange at the national convention to be held in November in Manchester, NH.
Grantham also was honored for having the most growth in membership during the past year adding 17 new members.
Individual awards included:
* Randy and Lisa Coone, Grange Family of the Year
* Sanderson Farms, Grange Farm of the Year
* John Tart Jr., Recruiter of the Year
* Glenda Crocker of Grantham School, Educator of the Year
* U.S. Army Reserve Brig. Gen. Ronnie Griffin, Military Personnel of the Year.
The state Grange sponsors several contests at the convention. Grantham received five first-place awards, six second places, four third places, five fourth places and one honorable mention.
Grantham also received recognition for its support of the Box Tops and Labels for Education program.
Grantham Grange president Bobby Crawford was re-elected to another term on the state Grange board of directors.
Grantham Grange owns and operates, along with the Grantham Fire Department, a food booth at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair. Proceeds are used to support the Grange's community service projects.
Grantham Grange meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Grantham Rescue building.
