The Christmas season doesn't get into full swing for another month or two, but the Salvation Army is already looking for people to volunteer to be bell ringers.
Bell ringers are needed from Nov. 29 through Dec. 24, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Volunteers must be 18 in order to ring the bell by themselves, but if they are with their family or a group, they can be as young as 7 or 8, Salvation Army Lt. Julie Igleheart said.
"We had Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and church youth groups ring the bells last year," she said. "We don't have all of our locations for bell ringers yet, but we would like to get volunteers on the roll now."
Because Thanksgiving falls later in November this year, there will be only four weeks, instead of the five weeks last year, to meet the goal of $87,000, Lt. Kenny Igleheart said.
"Since we have a week less to raise our goal this year, the more volunteers we can get, the better off we will be," Mrs. Igleheart said.
Anyone can ring the bell -- an individual, family, church, business or civic organization.
