Cyclists making stop in Goldsboro

Droves of bicycle riders will be pedaling into Goldsboro on Thursday during the 15th annual Cycle North Carolina ride from the mountains to the coast.
The ride is held annually to promote physical fitness and health and provide an economic boost to the local economies of the communities in which the cyclists stop.
About 1,100 cyclists are participating in this year's ride, which began Sept. 28 in Spruce Pine and will culminate in Atlantic Beach on Saturday.
The cyclists will travel from Holly Springs to Goldsboro and enter the city via Ash Street before turning onto Center Street and then onto Mulberry Street. They will take a left onto Jackson Street and another left onto Park Avenue before arriving at Herman Park.
There will be no road closures for the event and the cyclists will stagger their arrival to keep congestion down, Goldsboro Public Information Officer Kim Best said.
"The police will be monitoring key intersections and be ready to jump in if they need to at a moment's notice," Mrs. Best said.
The cyclists will begin arriving about noon.
Shuttles will bring the cyclists to downtown Goldsboro and also between Herman Park and nearby hotels from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m. on a 30-minute schedule.
Vendors and concessions will be available at Herman Park from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m.
From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Family Y will be serving barbecue in Herman Park and Double Barley Brewing Co. will be serving craft beer.
Music will be provided by Carolina Treat, a local country music band.
At 7:30 p.m., live music will be played at the Arts Council of Wayne County featuring Samantha Casey and the Bluegrass Jam.
The riders will depart Friday morning and head to the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park before ending up in New Bern on Friday night.
The cyclists will be able to sleep in Herman Park Center or camp in Herman Park in addition to having shuttle access to nearby hotels.
