Break-in, theft
An apartment at 700 E. Walnut St. was broken into and property stolen just days after the resident passed away, according to a Goldsboro police report. Jim Jones, the landlord of the apartment rented by the decedent, Ira Daniels Jr. who died Sept. 20, reported to police that a flat screen TV, surround sound speakers and a space heater were taken from the apartment. The property was valued at $250.
Beer run
A clerk at the Spence Market located at 900 N. Spence Ave. reported a theft to the Goldsboro Police Department at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. A black female left the store without paying for the 12-pack of Strawberry Rita beer and three 40-ounce Colt 45 brand beers she carried out, according to a report. The clerk told officers the female left in a red mini van heading north on North Spence Avenue, but the license plate number he reported was not found in the system.
Lights out
A single car traffic accident at 7:40 p.m. on North Spence Avenue resulted in a power outage more than three hours later due to Duke Energy having to replace a light pole. Power was out for about 15 minutes after 11 p.m. in the area of North Spence Avenue, between Cashwell Drive and Hillcrest Drive. The driver, Casey Elizabeth Shearin, 17, was cited for failure to reduce speed, according to a Goldsboro police wreck report. She told officers she was rounding the curve on North Spence Avenue when her car, "would not turn," forcing her to run off the road and strike the utility pole. The damage to the pole was estimated on the report at $4,000.
