Optimist Club plans to expand free computer program

The Optimist Club of Goldsboro is expanding its Computers4Kids program that provides low-cost refurbished computers to children in low-income families.
During the 2012-2013 school year, the club provided computers to 42 low-income families, reaching 103 children.
Recently, club members met with Wayne County Public Schools social workers to review the program for the 2013-2014 school year.
Based on their feedback, the club decided to expand the program to include families with children enrolled in the fourth and fifth grades. Previously, families were required to have at least one child enrolled in the sixth grade or higher in the county schools to qualify.
Each qualified family can receive only one refurbished computer through the program, even though they may have more than one child enrolled in the fourth grade or higher in the county's public schools.
To obtain an application for a low-cost, refurbished computer, low-income families meeting the above criteria should contact the social worker at the school attended by their child.
The Optimist Club, a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, reviews all applications and notifies the families that qualify and schedule a date for them to receive their refurbished computer.
Limited quantities are available and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
