A 68-year-old Goldsboro man has been arrested and charged in the kidnapping and attempted sexual assault of a 28-year-old LaGrange woman, the Goldsboro Police Department said.

Roland Whitley, of 1700 Harris St., allegedly locked the woman in a barn outside his home after a party Sunday.

While in the barn he attempted to sexually assault the woman and then left her there. She managed to escape using a screwdriver, according to a Police Department press release.

Once free, the woman took a bottle of liquor from Whitley's home, and fled on foot. He allegedly tracked her down and confronted her about the stolen liquor. He not only took back the bottle but stole her purse as well, the release said.

Whitley was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping, attempted second-degree sexual offense, and larceny from a person. He is being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
