Firefighters and EMS respond to a wreck involving four people and two vehicles on Emmaus Church Road Friday night.

A Mount Olive man is dead after a fatal crash Friday afternoon, and a number of other people were injured in two other wrecks Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

At about 1 p.m., according to state Highway Patrol officials, Dorothy Eley, no age listed, 357 E. Nelson St., Mount Olive, was traveling west on Outlaw Road when she came to the U.S. 117 Alt. intersection. After stopping, she turned right onto U.S. 117 Alt. -- into the path of an oncoming pickup truck, which struck her Toyota Camry on the driver's side.

Both she and her husband, Paul Henry Eley, 81, same address, were then taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital where he later died. Information on her injuries was unavailable as of press time, as were any charges being considered by the Highway Patrol. Also unavailable was the name and condition of the driver of the pickup truck.

Also Friday, at about 10 p.m., four people were injured in a two-vehicle wreck on Emmaus Church Road in Dudley.

Trooper J.S. Smith said that a Lincoln Town Car was traveling south on Emmaus Church Road when the driver lost control, crossed the center line and was sliding sideways when he was "t-boned" in the passenger side by an oncoming Chevy Equinox.

Both vehicles had two occupants.

In the Lincoln were the driver, Marcos Avila, 19, 4347 Harvey Fields Road, LaGrange, and an unidentified male passenger. Both were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. As of press time Saturday, Avila was listed in serious condition, while Smith said the passenger had no identification with him and that he had not been able to talk to him yet.

In the Chevy were the driver, Mary Kornegay, 54, 3106 Emmaus Church Road, and her daughter, Jessica Roberts, 28, of the same address. Both were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Avila has been charged with DWI, though Smith said that while blood samples were taken, he did not have a blood/alcohol level yet.

"We just know alcohol was involved," he said.

Then on Saturday, at about 12:30 p.m., a man was ejected from his pickup truck after being involved in a three-vehicle wreck.

According to Trooper L.E. Schertzinger, the driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck, Mark Elliot Milliken, 54, 400 Ryan Blvd., was attempting to pass an 18-wheeler while traveling east near 805 Arrington Bridge Road. According to Schertzinger, a black sedan was traveling west and the pickup truck allegedly sped up to finish the pass, scraping the side of the oncoming sedan and clipping the front of the 18-wheeler's cab before losing control and crashing in the woods.

Milliken was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to Vidant where, as of press time Saturday, he was listed in critical condition.

Charges against Milliken are pending.
