The Goldsboro Police Department is continuing its investigation into the July 6 murder of 23-year-old Tyree Simmons. However, one man is in custody and no further arrests are expected.
Investigators called the case, "purely domestic," in the early going and have not changed their description of the altercation that lead 41-year-old Stevie Denardo Simmons, no relation to the victim, to allegedly shoot Simmons in the chest.
The victim was dating the suspect's daughter, according to police.
The incident occurred outside the accused shooters' home at 610 W. Walnut St. at about 10 p.m., just two days after Independence Day.
Simmons made it halfway down the block to a home on the corner of Georgia Avenue seeking help. He died in the home before help could arrive.
