One dead in single-car crash

A Goldsboro woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident on Mark Edwards Road Monday at about 2:20 p.m.

Tammy McCaskill, 36, of 1345 N.C. 111 N., was driving south on Mark Edwards Road when her vehicle went off the road into a ditch and struck a driveway culvert, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Ms. McCaskill was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where she later died from her injuries.

She was not wearing her seatbelt.

No one else was in the vehicle at the time and no external factors contributed to the accident, according to officials with the Highway Patrol.
