French students in need of host families

Wayne County residents are being asked to open their homes to a foreign exchange student this summer.
Five French students who will arrive July 8 for a month-long visit in eastern North Carolina still have not found a sponsoring family. They will be in America until Aug. 3.
Host families will expose the students to their daily life and activities. The exchange students have a proficiency level in English of at least three years and want to experience first hand the life of an American family. They are fully insured and bring their own spending money.
Families need not to have children in order to qualify.
Each visiting student or foreign language teacher will be individually matched with a family. The same opportunity is available to American students and teachers abroad.
"This home stay immersion presents a unique opportunity for high school students to learn about a foreign culture outside of the classroom, inside the culture and language they are learning in school. It is a great extension to the foreign language classroom," said Prof. Frederic Fladenmuller, director of the Terra Linges/Terre des Langues program sponsored by East Carolina University.
