Eighteen Wayne Community College Continuing Education students have received Golden LEAF Scholarships for the summer term.
The students are Heather Baker, Bethany Evans, Tammy Freeman, Sharon Mack, Jessica Person and Brandon Wells, all in the Emergency Medical Services program; and Hannah Brock, Taylor Christian, Daneshia Cratch, Canadace Gibb, Tonia Gooding, Ashton McCoy, June Mixon, Wanda Ray, Latisha Revelle, Renee Thompson, Jean Viscount and Pamela White, all in Nurse Aide classes.
The scholarships can be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation and childcare expenses related to attending Occupational Education classes in the college's Continuing Education division. Recipients demonstrated financial need and resided in rural counties that are tobacco-dependent and/or economically distressed.
The Golden LEAF Scholarship program, which is designed to help North Carolinians attend the state's community colleges, is funded through a $750,000 grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation. The scholarship program is administered by the N.C. Community College System.
Students interested in applying for a Golden LEAF Scholarship for the summer term should contact Shelbra Jackson at 919-739-6735 or sbjackson@waynecc.edu in the Wayne Community College Financial Aid Office.
