The strong low pressure system and slow-moving cold front that is spawning the destructive weather in the Midwest is forecast to significantly weaken as it sweeps east over the next few days.
The system is expected to move into North Carolina late Thursday into Friday increasing the chance of rain and the possibility of a few isolated high wind gusts. However, severe weather is not expected, said Darin Figurskey, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Raleigh office.
