Forty-four artists from Wayne County Public Schools were recognized at this year's 2012-13 Visual Arts Awards reception held recently at Herman Park Center.
Carol Frederick, an art teacher at Charles B. Aycock High School, was also named Zeno Spence Art Educator of the Year.
This was the 22nd year for the annual event, sponsored by the Arts Council of Wayne County.
Hope Meyerhoeffer, WCPS director of visual arts, introduced the 46 award-winning artists. Sarah Merritt, the Arts Council director, and the superintendent presented each with a plaque.
Special recognition was given in several categories, including the Superintendent's Choice Art for students K-12, "Scholastic Art," which recognizes students who won Scholastic Art awards at a regional competition held at Barton College earlier in the year, and the top districtwide Christmas card design.
