Not long after an arrest warrant was issued for Gerald George Lee by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office for the October 2012 murder of Justin Travis Lancaster, 25, the 19-year-old has turned himself in.

Lancaster was shot and killed on Linen Lane the night of Oct. 24, in what the Sheriff's Office is saying was an apparent drug deal turned robbery.

"Lee has been a person of interest for a long time," Maj. Tom Effler said. "A lot of people have been interviewed over a long period, and we finally had enough probable cause to secure a warrant."

The victim's family said earlier this week that the arrest warrant was a step toward closure.

"The closure will come as soon as there is an arrest," Kristy Thompson said.

Mrs. Thompson, Lancaster's sister, along with his mother and friends of the family, have been holding vigils and passing out fliers since the shooting. They have recently adopted a stretch of highway in Travis' honor.

"The main thing is to get (the killer) off the street so nobody else gets hurt," Mrs. Thompson said.
