The N.C. Highway Patrol has released the names of the drivers involved in the two-car accident on N.C. 55 East in Mount Olive on Thursday. Seven people were injured, one victim remains hospitalized.
The driver of a white Ford Explorer, 28-year-old Crystal Requena, was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign, Highway Patrol trooper L.J. Bunn said.
Her vehicle collided with a 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air, eastbound at the time, and then ran off the road. The antique car was severely damaged.
Ms. Requena and each of the five children she was taking to Carver Elementary school suffered minor injuries. They were all treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the Bel Air, Billy Ray Hare, 52, of Goldston, was ejected from his vehicle, and had to be flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Officials there said today that Hare is in fair condition.
