WCC holding Black History Month art exhibit

As part of its Black History Month celebration, Wayne Community College is hosting an exhibit of works by Dudley artist Lawrence Durham.
The 13 pieces, which depict scenes from historical to modern times -- from Buffalo Soldiers and Tuskegee Airmen to a professional basketball game -- and Biblical themes, are on display in the Atrium of the Wayne Learning Center at the college's main campus in Goldsboro.
Durham, an educational specialist at Riverbend School at Cherry Hospital, is a professional artist specializing in original oil and acrylic paintings, landscapes, seascapes, genre paintings, portraits, sculptures, and digital photography. He has produced and permanently installed numerous baptistery murals and other artwork in churches throughout North Carolina.
He earned a degree in art education and fine arts from N.C. Central University and has completed post-graduate work in advanced painting, advanced sculpture, and graphic design at East Carolina University and Duke University.
The exhibit is free and open to the public through Feb. 25. There will also be a reception for the artist on Sunday from noon until 1 p.m.
