Gaming Summit rolling out red carpet

Wayne Community College will roll out the red carpet for the international gaming community Saturday as it hosts the annual Carolina Game Summit.
Literally.
Along with 24 tournaments, speakers from across the video game industry and a panel of EA Games developers, the Summit this year will boast the world premiere of a movie trailer, complete with an appearance by its female lead.
Rachel Lara, star of the thriller "Killer Holiday," due for release this year, will moderate the EA Games panel at 2 p.m. as well as preside over the tournament awards ceremony along with Patrick Scott Patterson.
Patterson, a longtime professional gamer and authority on the gaming industry, will share the stage with Ms. Lara earlier in the day, as well, at a noon discussion titled "Violent Video Game Controversy Past Present and Future."
But Michael Everett, a video game design professor at Wayne Community and the head organizer of the summit, said that while there will be plenty of speakers and representatives of the gaming industry, this year's summit is centered on those who attend.
From the red carpet welcome to guest-centric Tweets and photos, he said this year's summit is about making those who attend feel like stars.
The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 8 p.m. at the college.
Matt Silva, a makeup artist aiming to compete on Face Off, will also be on hand to do makeup for guests and there will be a performance at 5 p.m. by the Harp Twins.
There will be hands-on labs and training with industry professionals and a plethora of tournament live streams provided by Twitch.
