Capt. Teresa Cox

For only the second time in the history of the Goldsboro Police Department, a black female officer has been promoted to the rank of captain.

Teresa Cox, a 20-year veteran of the police force, was officially elevated to the rank of captain on Sept. 12, 2012. She rose steadily through the ranks including a promotion to corporal in 2001, after which she was assigned to the crime prevention unit.

The Mount Olive College alum pursued degrees in criminal justice and sociology. She used her advanced education and years of experience to her benefit, and to the public's, when she became the department's victim advocate in 2005. Ms. Cox achieved the rank of sergeant in 2008.
