Cyclist killed while traveling on Herman

A mangled bicycle lies in the middle of Herman Street, near its intersection with Royall Avenue, Thursday evening.
A cyclist was killed Thursday evening when he was struck by a truck in the 800 block of North Herman Street.
James Franklin Player, 48, was traveling south on Herman Street at 5:51 p.m. in the center turn lane when he attempted to turn left into his driveway at 814 N. Herman St..
Player turned in front of Richard Mercer Clark, 48, of Princeton, who swerved in an attempt to avoid the bicycle.
Player and his bicycle became trapped beneath Clark's 1993 GMC truck and were dragged north toward Herman Place. The police report shows both vehicles came to rest just off the roadway.
Player was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police suspect the victim of alcohol impairment, although alcohol and drug test results were pending.
Evidence at the crash site showed that the bicycle had been traveling southeast in Clark's lane of travel when contact was made with the truck, which was traveling in the right lane of the five-lane street.
Speed was not considered a factor.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing and no charges have been filed.
