Special Olympians participate and win at state fall games

Wayne County Special Olympics athletes recently participated in several state events.
The N.C. Fall Games for golf were held in High Point. Athletes participated in individual skills, 9 and 18-hole team alternate shot and 9-hole individual stoke competitions.
The golf team was coached by Debi Walderman, Catherine LeChot and Don Jenkins. The team earned nine medals and three ribbons. In individual skills competition, Dianne Jordan won a silver medal, Rhonda Barwick took a fourth place ribbon, Larry McRoy and Paul Edwards won silver medals and David McRoy won a gold medal. In 9-hole alternate shot team competition, Alan and Don Jenkins Jr. won bronze medals and Stephen and Bob Hannum took fifth place ribbons. In 18-hole alternate shot team competition, Phillip and Jacob Huffman won bronze medals. In 9-hole individual stroke play, Erica Walderman won a gold medal.
Jay Zambelli was athlete team captain.
State fall games in bocce were held in Fayetteville, with athletes participating in singles, doubles and four-person team competitions.
The team was coached by Donna Countryman and earned 10 medals. In doubles competition, Alan Jenkins and Charlie Nail, Heather Pardue and Angela Wegschieder and Jordan Wiggins and Savannah Morgan all won silver medals. In the four-person competition, Jonathan Delano, Shannon Moore, Tyler Edmundson and Bobby Willis won silver medal.
