The Wayne Business and Industry Center will offer a course to help workers interested in manufacturing jobs.

"Introduction to Manufacturing" will introduce students to the basic skills needed in that type of business. Classes will be offered at Wayne Community College Oct. 29-Nov. 9, Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

The course is designed to assist unemployed and under-employed workers and fees may be waived for those who meet income criteria. Tuition assistance is available.

"The Introduction to Manufacturing class will go over OSHA laws, mathematics in the workplace, and various other items that are used at local manufacturing companies," said Jena Cantwell, an instructor in the program. "Students will also have the opportunity to attain Snap-on certificates in basic hand tools and torque, Career Readiness Certificate and soft skills training certificate, and upon completion of the class they will receive a certificate of completion."

Also included will be tours of local industry, practice interviews and completion of a resume.

"This combination of classes has the support of many local manufacturing companies including, Franklin Bakery, AAR, Mission Foods, Mt. Olive Pickle Company, AP Exhaust, Cooper Standard and Cooper Bussman," Mrs. Cantwell said.

The program is made possible by a Planning and Community Development Block Grant through the City of Goldsboro.
