The Wayne Business and Industry Center at Wayne Community College will offer a series of seminars next month that can lead to a "Leadership, Supervision and Management" Certificate for participants.

The free leadership series includes a seminar every Tuesday afternoon in October that will provide the knowledge and tools necessary to manage time and people to achieve company and personal goals.

"Many individuals are looking for ways to advance in the workplace. One way to show your supervisor your commitment to understanding leadership and management is to attend and complete professional development sessions such as this leadership series," said Renita Dawson, director of the Small Business Center at WCC. "Your certificate will be your proof of taking those initial steps to be a successful leader."

The sessions and their presenters will be held Oct. 2, It's Not About the Money: How To Motivate, Mentor and Manage Great Employees by Sarah Levitt; Oct. 9, Making Leadership Magical by John Formica; Oct. 16, Leadership: Barriers to Communication and High Performance by Kenston Griffin; Oct. 23, Understanding and Working with Different Ages and Generations by Emily Ballance; and Oct. 30, Understanding Diversity by Thomas Patrick.

To earn a certificate, "graduates" of the program must attend four of the five seminars.

The potential audience for the series includes managers of all levels, supervisors, business owners, and team leaders who manage people at non-profit, for-profit, private, and public organizations and companies, said Ms. Dawson.

"Wayne County leaders have expressed the need for this type of training because they see the potential in our workforce. As our current leaders move into retirement, we want to make sure there are qualified individuals in place to take the helm of our small and large businesses and organizations in the county," she said.

All seminars will be held 3-5 p.m. in Room 101 of the Walnut Building on Wayne Community College's main campus in Goldsboro. They are free and are open to the public, but registration is required.

To pre-register, go to www.ncsbc.net, click on "Contact Your Local SBC," select "Wayne County," choose the seminar, and click on "Register" for each seminar. You may also call (919) 739-6940. Participants are also asked to complete and bring to the seminar the registration form found under the "Small Business Center" heading at www.wayneworksnc.com.
