NCCU alumni to honor teacher Jones

The Gold/Wayne Chapter of North Carolina Central University Alumni Association will honor Mrs. Eliza Smith Jones during its scholarship banquet.
The event has been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. at First African Baptist Church at 803 Harris St.
The Person County native began her career as a home economics teacher in 1943 at Dillard High School in Wayne County.
Later, she transferred to Goldsboro High School, where she remained, teaching a total of 38 consecutive years before retirement.
Although her professional life ended, she is as vibrant as ever, and continues to be an active member of her church and community.
